As the capital of Italy and the centre of Italian culture, Rome has a lot to offer tourists. Whether your passion is art, architecture, history, fashion, cuisine or archaeology, Rome should have more than enough activities and sights to keep you occupied. Famous for the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and the Spanish Steps, Rome also surrounds Vatican City, the holy see of Catholicism. Within the Vatican precinct there are also a huge number of sights to take in, including St Paul's Basilica (with fantastic views from the dome), the Sistine Chapel, and the Vatican museums. You could spend weeks wandering the streets of Rome but make sure you pack for the season - in summer Rome can be very hot (with temperatures reaching over 30°C) and in winter quite cold (sometimes snowing).
